Landscape Design by
Jack Waterford

Jack is an Australian landscape designer who strives to imagine sustainable outdoor spaces in harmony with nature; prioritising the use of native plants and renewable materials, with a creative vision that reflects and enhances the natural environment.

His work is guided by core principles, each of which contributes to his mission of fostering sustainable practices within the field of landscape design. From advocating for the use of renewable resources to promoting the incorporation of edible gardens and native plant life, Jack is committed to redefining the relationship between humanity and nature and rediscovering the blessings that flow from finding balance with the earth in our gardens.

Jack incorporates a no-till approach that respects and nourishes the soil with an emphasis on natural ground covers, reinforcing the critical role that soil plays in a thriving garden ecosystem. He designs landscapes with water conservation in mind, utilising ground covers, grasses and collection systems to minimise water usage in line with Australia's climatic demands.

Jack's designs also consider the needs of local wildlife, creating habitats that encourage biodiversity and contribute to the overall health of the local ecosystem. His belief in low-maintenance, self-sustaining gardens resonate throughout his work, resulting in landscapes that flourish with minimal human intervention.

Despite his focus on sustainability and ecology, Jack never compromises on aesthetics. He expertly balances functional design with natural beauty, creating flowing spaces that are not only environmentally friendly but also visually stunning.

Landscape Design Process

Step 1: Initial Consultation and Vision

We begin with a meeting – either in onsite or online – where we listen to your needs, ideas, and vision for your property. This conversation will help us understand your lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and any specific requirements you have for the outdoor space.

Step 2: Site Visit and Assessment

Our design team will visit your property to conduct a comprehensive assessment. This involves studying the site's existing conditions, opportunities, and constraints. We will take note of the soil, light conditions, existing vegetation, and architectural style of your house.

Step 3: Proposal and Agreement

Based on our understanding of your requirements and our site assessment, we will provide a detailed proposal that includes the scope of services, project timeline, and costs. Once we have your approval, we will sign an agreement to initiate the design process.

Step 4: Concept Development

Our designers will develop initial concepts for your space, including potential layouts, hardscape ideas, and preliminary plant selections. These concepts will be presented to you for feedback and revisions will be made accordingly.

Step 5: Detailed Design and Plan

Once the concept is approved, we will develop a detailed design that includes specific plant selections, materials, construction details, lighting, irrigation plan, etc. We will work closely with you during this stage to ensure the design meets your needs and expectations.

Step 6: Implementation Plan

We will prepare an implementation plan that outlines the steps needed to bring the design to life. This includes sourcing materials, scheduling construction, coordinating with contractors, etc.

Step 7: Installation

Our team, along with trusted contractors, will implement the design. We will oversee the installation process to ensure it aligns with our design and maintains the highest quality standards.

Step 8: Post-Installation and Maintenance Guidelines

Once the installation is complete, we will conduct a post-installation review with you to ensure everything is to your satisfaction. We will also provide you with detailed maintenance guidelines to keep your new landscape thriving.

Step 9: Ongoing Support

Our relationship doesn't end when the project is complete. We offer ongoing support, and we'll be available to answer questions and provide guidance as your landscape grows and matures.
